Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

I've never had an optometrist upcharge for so many things. I had to pay for a "contact fitting" just to get the contacts I've been wearing for years. Do you want your pupiliary distance for glasses? You have to pay for that too. The staff was fine but everything felt rushed and covid precautions didn't seem too big of a concern - sharing devices, pens, etc without a wipe down.

W Smith  |  Rating: 3  |  America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses

The people make the business successful or not. Cameron was a 5 star employee and is a wonderful asset to the business! Cameron was easy to work with and very thorough about the details concerning my frame and lens options. He actually told me more about my prescription than the optometrist did. The optometrist was very dry and did not seem to want to talk about the symptoms I was explaining to him. He seemed wore out or very tired that day. I feel like they process customers back to back all day and get few breaks. The total appointment time was just over an 1.5 hours.. When my glasses were ready (on time!) and I came to pick them up, the nose pieces we way off and noticeably bent up funny. The girl attempted multiple time to correct them to fit my face unsuccessfully and admitted she was not good at doing the adjustments. In the end Cameron was asked to help and he got it right in just a couple of tries. I would not go back if it wasn't for Cameron. That guy deserves a raise as he was the only "top notch" person I dealt with throughout the whole process. Good thing he was working or I would have been inclined to go to a different optometrist. My glasses do help and work like I hoped. Again, 5 stars for Cameron - 2 stars for the rest of the place.

Ed Dellinger  |  Rating: 5  |  Laneve Jr John F OD

Dr. Laneve is an outstanding eye doctor who I've trusted my eye care with for many years! He's a pleasure to work with ( as is his office mgr Michelle) and always explains what he's doing in great detail. His prices are very fair and you can always count on him for a great fitting or repair on lenses!

Sue Mcgannon  |  Rating: 5  |  McBride Blackburn Opticians

I needed my glasses repaired ASAP and luckily found McBride Blackburn Opticians. The staff was so friendly and helpful! I could not be more impressed. They are now my go to opticians in Lynchburg.

Michelle Morehead  |  Rating: 2  |  St. Clair Eye Care

I received my prescription lenses through a different company but was prescribed by St Claire through a eye exam and once I received my lenses, they simply did not help my eyesight but almost seemed to make it worse. The lens company was cleared of any mishap but once I informed St Clare's that there might have been a mistake regarding my eyesight and the lenses they prescribed, I got nothing but a run around and informing me they would call me in a few days. A few days go by and no call from them, so I call them just to get another run around and to inform me that someone will be calling me back by the end of the day. It is very unfortunate I have heard good things about St Claire Eye Care and would have liked them to live up to the high standard.
