Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

Worst eyeglass purchase experience in 40 years of wearing glasses.  First appointment in April went fine.  Got my glasses in about 8 days.   They didn't fit well.  Squeezed my head very hard.  Was told by a young male tech that they didn't adjust glasses because it would hurt their integrity.  WTH?  Took them home anyway but I could not see correctly with them.  Had the wrong strength in one bifocal and the wrong prescription on that same lens.  Called to tell them that and they said they couldn't get me in to see the doctor for 2 weeks.  Got my appt in May only to be told then that I couldn't see the doc and could only see a tech "sorry for the confusion".  Two weeks to just see a tech?  again.. WTH?  I digress.  The tech verified that one of the lenses bifocal magnification was wrong.   No answer as to why they gave them to me in the first place but they would fix it.  I said, fine but the prescription is wrong too.  They told me they couldn't do anything about that because I had to wear them longer after the new lens was replaced.  Again.. WTH?  A week later I got the glasses and this time a nice tech lady said she COULD adjust the glasses to better fit.  Claimed she didn't understand why the previous person said they couldn't be adjusted.   I wore them for about 10 days and on a very long driving trip.  Got headaches.  We are now in June.   Called again and was told I couldn't be seen until the end of June / July to have the prescription checked.  To this I just hung up.  After another trip I did go back in person later in July and explained all of this and magically got an appointment in 2 days.  Neither the staff nor the doc seemed happy to see me, as if any of this was my fault.   Long and short I needed a new prescription, as I said, and yet another new lens.   Two weeks later I now have the corrected lens and the glasses seem fine.  It's now almost 5 months since I called for my first appointment.  FIVE MONTHS! Compare this to a similar experience with Lenscrafters a couple glasses ago.  Called them for an appt.  Scheduled me in 2 days.  That afternoon I had my glasses in hand and fitted properly to my head.   2 days later I noticed a similar prescription problem to the current one.   Went back to Lencrafters.  They walked me over to the eye Doc.   The eye Doc took me in between two scheduled appts that day.  Corrected the prescription and sent me back to Lenscrafters.  1 hour later I had the corrected glasses in hand   FOUR DAYS.  NOT FIVE MONTHS. Cost difference?  Lenscrafters was about $100 out of pocket more expensive.  I'll pay that any time to avoid another experience like this one with Coastal Vision.  You all need to do better with product, scheduling and customer service.

My eye exam tech, Tammy, was as professional, pleasant and efficient as they come. I've never had her before at this location, but America's Best, you've got a good one. Take good care of her because she takes excellent care of us!

I had a wonderful experience! Whole team was so pleasant from my first phone call to make my new patient appointment, to my eye exam, and glasses pick up. Tammie was so helpful and kind. Dr. Schwartz and the whole team answered any questions I had and were all wonderful!

We had been coming here as a family for at least 3 years. Dr. Nelson and Dr. Wang have been absolutely amazing! Unfortunately, we will not be back because we have had consistent issues with the front desk staff. One in particular acts like she doesn't want to be there and has had a bad attitude on multiple occasions. It's really sad because the front desk staff is a representation of the business. I see based upon other reviews that we are not the only ones who have had issues with them. We now go elsewhere for our eye care and the customer service is so much better.

If I could give this place a negative star rating I would. I called this practice because my daughters glasses were damaged and she can’t see at all. The emergency with this is that we are in a different state and have the leave our beach house in the morning. They refused to help us in any way and once I asked them if the optometrist took the Hippocratic Oath the girl decided to ask the doctor if she could be seen. They left me on hold for an hour and I had to keep calling back. Knowing that we are 2 hours away they kept me on hold for an hour knowing that would put us past closing time and then said they would see her if she could get there by 5:40. They knew what they were doing and they did it on purpose. Don’t visit this place if you want an optometrist that cares about you at all. To not help someone in an extreme emergency is just the lowest you can get. I have glaucoma and can’t drive her. They’ve stranded a mother and daughter without a place to stay and no way to get anywhere for help.
