Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

The staff here is so friendly and helpful! They are usually quite busy, and when I came the store was near to closing time. Despite the fact that everyone who worked there was ready to head home, the gentleman at the desk went above and beyond to help us find the right frames, went into the back to look for more of what we were looking for, and was overall very cheerful, patient and good humored! He went above and beyond, and we were grateful!

Jeff Boule  |  Rating: 1  |  Crystal Vision Center - Scranton

This is the second pair of glasses I purchased from Crystal Vision Center (CVC) that after nominal use, the lenses crack from the frame inward. But poor quality lenses aren't the only problem with this CVC. The people behind the counter flat-out LIE! I was told after the first pair of glasses cracked, that it was common for lenses held in with a string to crack like that. So I purchased a more full frame pair. The exact same thing happened, the only difference is, this crack is spreading faster than the cracks on the last pair. Then there is the poor customer service. It's hard enough to pick a pair of frames without people cramming themselves in your face "wanting to help". All that help did was further confuse and unnerve me. If they aren't infringing on your personal space, they ignore you. I signed in at CVC Keyser Ave, and I was told I would be next. Then three other people showed up after me, and were taken in ahead of me. I don't feel valued as a customer there, the glasses are cheap garbage, and I will pay out of pocket anymore in order to get QUALITY glasses and frames. You can't get quality from CVC. You'll get what's pictured.

Susan Baron  |  Rating: 5  |  Dr. Mary Jane Cosgrove

I have been to many eye care establishments and this is really the first time I felt 100%confident that I was in good hands. The delightful woman who checked me in was super nice, polite, knowledgeable and best of all.. SHE SMILED! It immediately put me at ease. The Dr was great! Not standoffish, calming and gave me useful information. I really felt like he was a true professional in his field and in interacting with patients. The person who helped me with choosing my next pair of frames was extremely helpful, he patiently helped me choose on 3 frames, explained why certain options in lenses were better and the entire store made the visit a personal interaction, not like I was just another number. Highly recommend this location!

I absolutely love having Dr. Cosgrove as my optometrist. She is so thorough and very caring. When I left my appointment yesterday I was so pleased. She is my favorite doctor I have! I drove in 2.5 hours for this visit due to moving away from scranton and I am going to continue to do so every year because of how much I trust her with my eyes and believe she is the best optometrist around!

Lish Ddhsh  |  Rating: 5  |  Boyle Eye Specialists

The staff at Boyle Eye Specialists are professional, caring, and extremely knowledgeable. I have utmost confidence in the care and advice I receive from the staff in this office, and have never had a better experience particularly in the eyewear selection process. The specialists really know their products and more importantly how the products work for you. They are patient, honest, and above all very helpful, and make the entire process enjoyable. I would highly recommend this office both for the quality of eye care and the caring, knowledgeable staff.
