Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

Do not get your eyes examined here, be forewarned. There are extremely long wait times. My husband and I waited over 1 1/2 hrs. for Dr. Loewitt to arrive at the Woodman Drive location. I had to return to the Beavercreek office because she examined my eyes incorrectly the first visit at the Woodman Drive location. I waited over an hour there for a reexamination. Again, when I got my glasses, my prescription was incorrect. I had went 7 months with TWO incorrect prescriptions, I contacted her via email, she did not respond nor did she reimbursed me for any of my costs. So, 2 pair of glasses and 2 exams later, I am going to have to go elsewhere for a new eye exam and start the process again. I feel she could give a care less about her patients, just another greedy overbooker.

Things you should know before you go: You MUST either have your eyes dilated or do a retinal scan (extra cost) before they will give you an eye exam. I didn't want to pay extra for the scan so I had my eyes dilated even though I've gotten an exam once a year for the past 20 years without dilation. If you are getting a contacts exam, they will NOT give you a trial pair even though I've always received a trial pair at other optometrists whether it was in Virginia, California, or Ohio. I asked the OD about it and he looked at me like I had 3 heads and told me I can order a pair with my new prescription. I even asked around and everyone I talked to said they receive a free trial pair after their yearly exam. If you change your mind and want to cancel your glasses order less than 24 hours after it is placed, you can't. You can exchange them for another pair after it comes in, though.

I love Dr. Sherry! She takes the time to explain and uses graphics. Mark H. was an engaging salesperson and was patient as I made my selections. He was knowledgeable and there was no pressure. I’ve been coming here for years and will continue to do so.

My Family and I have been going to Nova Vision Care for years, and I've never been disappointed. The doctors and staff here are awesome! Everyone is super kind, supportive, respectful, informative, and really easy to talk to... They work really hard to respect the time of patients like me, by getting us in and out as quickly as possible, while maintaining a high standard for care. I actually look forward to each appointment. I just wanted to give a thank you to everyone at NOVA!

Fantastic experience! Kim A. took the time and listened to make sure that my husband's glasses were properly fitted and that he could see well. After 4 or more years at a different provider, he was convinced that clear vision was an impossibility. We highly recommend Pearle Vision.
