Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

This was my first visit with Newton Eye Care, since I was unable to get appointments elsewhere during COVID. I was very surprised at the high quality, professionalism. They were very efficient, and the prescriptions (both glasses and contacts) were spot on. They took the time to answer all my questions. I've since made an appointment for my daughter and will be back for my future prescriptions. I highly recommend!

I had a problem choosing the good sunglasses for me. I know that these guys mostly specialize in optical services but they provided me with such a great consultation on my subject. The staff was very attentive and provided with me with the great service. Highly recommend!

Highland Opticians made it so easy to replace the glasses that my elderly mother had lost. They sent me photos of some frames to choose from and made the glasses the same day that they received the prescription They even mailed them the same day so my mother received them the next day! Top Notch Service without me going to the store! Thank you Emilie!

I want to shout about the generosity and quality customer service I received at Highland Opticians and specifically Julie, the young woman who served me. I visited Newton while on a three week vacation from my Peace Corps service in Ethiopia. My life style there has been hard on my glasses. First one arm then the other fell off. I returned to the States hoping to be able to have them repaired. My three weeks were very full visiting friends and family from Coast to Coast. Not until my last few days in Newton did I remember to look into having my glasses repaired. Given the condition of my glasses I was not certain they would be repairable, here in Ethiopia I was told they were not repairable. Julie at Highland Opticians was of a different mind. Not only did she make the repairs upon learning that I was serving in the Peace Corps she repaired them for free. Being here in Ethiopia is a mixed pleasure. Not every day is filled with rewarding experiences. Julie's generosity and the honor she accorded me for my Peace Corps service made my day. Dexter Nardella, PCV Ethiopian 2011-2013

I am new patient of Newton Eye Care, recently move to the area. My first appointment was scheduled fast. Dr. Cheng and her assistant were friendly, professional, and very attentive. I was given plenty of time to select new glass frames and got useful style suggestions. I'd also like to thank Dr. Cheng for going the extra mile to contact supplier about availability of the glass frame I like in a different color. I am very glad that I found this place and recommended it to my family.
