Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

The best word to describe my visits to Grand Vision and Dr. Musselman is…delightful. I’ve had bad vision since I was 6 years old. I’m now 40. I’ve gone through my share of eye doctors. I even worked at Eyemasters for several years in college just to get a break on eye care because my eyes were so “bad”. In 2016, I came to Dr. Musselman in crisis mode — I had an ulcer on my right eye from being irresponsible (working in construction/sanding without eye protection AND sleeping with my contacts). In the vision world, that’s an absolute NO. The doctor, without judgement and in the most caring way, schooled me on taking care of my eyes. I realized, “Yes,I am so fortunate to have two eyes to see!” Not enough of us say, “Thank you… thank you for helping me see clearly AND thank you for saving my eye!” The doctor and staff are, in fact, delightful. I feel like I leave seeing 20/20 on all matters — getting an eye doctor, sage, and energy boost all in one visit! Thanks to all :)

While the Optometrist was very helpful in performing an ocular exam and giving me options regarding contact lenses, I’m very disappointed with my experience at Eye Wares on Metairie Road. I brought in my only pair of eyeglasses to get the arms tightened. The Manager took them, and came back with the arm snapped off at the edge of the frames. She told me there was nothing she could do, and declined to accept fault for breaking my only pair of glasses.

I recently visited Stanton Optical for an eye exam and to purchase some new glasses. I must say…this was my BEST experience ever when getting a new pair of glasses or even receiving an eye exam! I was helped by Bliss, who was not only patient but very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Stanton Optical and I’ll definitely be visiting this location in the future.

Alicia Vial  |  Rating: 5  |  Vision Optique, 3242 Severn

I've been wearing glasses/contacts for nearly 15 years now and nearly every year I've had a different optometrist. I recently saw Dr. Vally and after talking with me about any new vision issues I've had over the last year she did a very in-depth exam and found out I in fact never needed glasses to begin with. I was misdiagnosed because my initial doctor didn't take the time to correct the issues I was having but instead put a "band-aid" on it and my vision has been getting progressively work ever since. Dr. Vally is going to work with me over the next 2 year to get me out of contact and glasses completely! It's been almost 2 weeks since she prescribed me a lower prescription and my vision is already starting to improve! This was my first visit with Dr. Vally and refuse to see any other doctor from now own!

This was my first real eye exam and it was a very pleasant experience. Dr. Hood was great, she was very nice and explained everything to me as she gave me my eye exam. Her staff was also really accommodating, I plan on returning and definitely recommend Eye Works.
