Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

I had an excellent visit at Vision Professionals of Leawood today. The entire staff takes time and extra care to make sure all questions are answered and your appointment is thorough, but still very expedient. As a long time patient I appreciate the continued quality care in such a welcoming environment!

Would not recommend WP. I went into my usual optical place last week after losing my glasses on vacation but because the turn around time was a bit longer than usual I went to Warby Parker. The gentleman assisting me assured me their CS team would call my doctor for the script and I ended up paying over $500 at that time. The same day, the CS team emailed me to let me know they tried contacting my optician but did not have luck because they reached a VM saying they had already closed for holiday vacation. Unfortunately, that was a lie because I tried calling and got through to my doctor right away and they said there were zero calls or messages left from WP. My doctor said they would be happy to fax over my script to them but needed a fax number. WP leaves ZERO contact information in their emails; no fax or CS number left with any of their communication. I tried to contact the Leawood location again but, unfortunately, there is not a local number for them. It is an 888 number that when called, says they do not accept calls do to their website having issues and the only line of communication has to be through email. Do better WP...you are screwing with peoples medical necessities and if you cannot handle it or it too difficult, then you should exit the medical field IMMEDIATELY.

I don't know why other optometrist's offices have such small selections of frames. Not a problem here. They have a very nice selection of designer frames that look really good. I got a pair of Tom Fords and D&G's. (By the way they have a buy one get one half off deal.. nice.). They got me a great fit and the staff was honest about which pairs they thought looked good on me and which ones didn't. Thanks!

Great place! Super friendly staff. I had a very thorough eye exam. Dr. Schreiber spent quite a bit of time talking to me about my options. He was pleasant, informative and spent as much time with me as I needed. He even convinced me that I didn't need new glasses at this time! Quite frankly this is probably the best optometry experience I've ever had. My wife made an appointment for the near future. I will definitely be back! I highly recommend this place!
