Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

If I were writing this review in 2004 when I became one of the very first customers at this practice, this would be a glowing five-star review. It was just Dr. Bunde back then--and for many years I had excellent exams, excellent glasses, and couldn't have been happier with my vision treatment. But a few years ago, I started to notice problems. For one, they are very reluctant to give you access to your prescription if you aren't buying eyeglasses or contacts from them. Under HIPAA, they can't technically *refuse* to give you your prescription, but they can delay, forget, mix up the fax number, etc. This happened way too often to not be deliberate. You also can't get your full records sent to yourself or another practice, which brings me to the next part... I had been pretty unhappy with my prescriptions from them in general for the past few years, but the last straw was when they seriously messed up my prescription and refused to correct it, stating that it must be the glasses manufacturer (since I didn't order from them) They said that I would have to pay out-of-pocket for a new exam. So I went to a different eye doctor and--after much trouble getting Fairway to send my records (and even then, they still only sent partial records)--got the correct prescription. But on top of that, I found out that Fairway had actually been giving me bad prescriptions for the past several years, massively overcorrecting my vision this whole time. I was a customer for 18 years, and it's been a very long time since I've had a good pair of glasses. I can't even describe how much of a relief it is to have gone elsewhere and gotten a pair of glasses that doesn't give me headaches at the computer anymore. And I didn't have to call several times of the course of a week to get my prescription sent, either--in fact, I didn't have to call at all. For the sake of your eyes and your sanity, please find a trustworthy practice to get your eyes checked--it's so important to your quality of life.

I will not go back to this office as a patient or bring my children there. My son had a problem that required a referral to Children’s Mercy Ophthalmology (where they have pediatric ophthalmologists). He is not able to be seen by Children’s Mercy for another 5 months because he is considered a new patient. I have had to call multiple times to Fairway Eye Clinic to get this referral done. In order to avoid this problem in the future of a long wait, I requested my other child also be referred to establish care with Children’s Mercy. Once care is established at Children’s Mercy you are able to get in a lot more quickly. Fairway Eye Clinic has refused to make this referral because they stated he has no problems. Children’s Mercy doesn’t require that a child has a specific medical problem to be seen by their eye clinic. Fairway Eye Clinic stated they still won’t make the referral. I understand they want to try and keep business at their establishment, but it is ridiculous to not work with patients. I have also left multiple requests to speak with the provider we saw at Fairway Eye Clinic to explain the reason for referral request. I have yet to receive a call back despite calling over three times. I was told by the staff today, “Our eye doctors don’t typically call patients.” This is very concerning to me to as a mother to have to call and request that a referral be done multiple times, get denied care for my other child, & not even get a call back when requested.

Amazing! Highly recommend. I originally ordered frames and lenses at Mission eye care on Johnson drive. After nearly a month of waiting, I called mission eye care and they tell me my glasses are still not ready and they don’t know when they will be because the lenses were on back order. I was so frustrated with the lack of communication from that other office but I was able to drop my frames off at Fairway Eye Center the same day I called them and my glasses were ready 3 days later! I should’ve went to Fairway first! I will definitely be back! The staff at Fairway were fast, friendly, and professional and I loved the gift bag I received when I picked up my glasses! Thank you so much!

I have seen Dr. Bunde for years and have always had positive experiences at Fairway Eye Center every year. He is always spot on with my prescriptions and this visit he really saved me! I just had cataract surgeries on both eyes and I thought the optometrist at my ophthalmologist’s office was going to do my refraction and a new prescription under my medical insurance. I get there and the tech did the whole thing- not the optometrist! I felt uncomfortable with that so I used my vision insurance to have Dr. Bunde double check. The prescription that was given to me at my surgeon’s office was wildly inaccurate. I am so glad I trusted my gut and had him double check! Everyone else in the office is always so friendly and helpful as well! I would definitely recommend him to anyone- and have!

I absolutely adore Fairway Eye Center! I had an eye injury that they fit me in to be examined for a health check without an appointment! And on a Saturday no less, wow! Everyone who I saw was extremely caring and compassionate. They’ve always been fantastic for my annual exams and giving me competitive prices on my frames and lens, but how wonderful to find out how well they will accommodate me in an injury situation. Can’t say enough, I love them!
