Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

I had the most incredible experience at America’s Best today. Let me tell you that the receptionist Sammy is top notch. I have never in my 52 years on this earth been treated with such care and compassion as I was today by this wonderful and hard working young lady. I have never seen someone with as much work ethic and drive as this young firecracker. It literally took my breath away. I have never seen anyone more fitting to wear the highly sought after blue blazer. Well done Sammy, well done! As for the the rest of the staff..trea magnificent! Dominique was second to none her knowledge and professionalism were a thing to behold. Cheers to an experience that not only was second to none, but actually changed me as a person!

They went above and beyond to take care of my 5 years old daughter. From checking my insurance coverage to being so patience and thorough during the exam, they have definitely earned my trust. Dr. Nickel and the office staffs were amazing.

The staff I worked with was great. By the time I left, having found new frames we were having a good time. The technical part was excellent with on the spot coaching from Jen. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their job and paid attention to all my little idiosyncratic wishes. Will go again.

Sarah Coleman  |  Rating: 5  |  Roggy Eye Clinic

Dr. Roggy has given my family (4 in total) excellent care in our time here in Iowa. She caught a focusing issue (convergence) in my eyes, and the recommended treatment stopped headaches and fatigue as soon as I got my new glasses. At the midway point of the year, I experienced a vision shift, and was worked in immediately to adjust my prescription, at no cost to me. Dr. Roggy took time off her lunch to diagnose me and provide options for me to consider. At my most recent appointment, she and her staff went above and beyond to max out my insurance benefits as my aging eyes have required some specialty lenses. Her staff is always professional and courteous, you could not ask for more.

We have been getting our eye exams and glasses at the Coralville LensCrafters since we moved to Iowa City three years ago. We love the friendly personnel, professional expertise, and one-on-one service. I trust Carol to pick out just the right frames for me and to get them perfectly adjusted. Gone are my anxieties about choosing out new glasses, because because Carol always has the solution!
