Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

Always a great visit. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Dr. Lehr takes the time to talk to you to make sure you understand what he’s explaining and answering your questions. I highly recommend Lehr Vision Care for anyone needing an eye doctor.

Denise Obrien  |  Rating: 5  |  Morrison Eyecare

I’ve been visiting Morrison Eyecare for years and always receive such personalized care. A couple years ago I moved to contacts and Dr. Morrison helped make sure I was comfortable with the transition. Laura is wonderful with assisting with selecting frames and unquestionably always knows which ones are the best for my face. I also appreciate that scheduling appointments can be managed via email.

Ralph Pirritano  |  Rating: 5  |  Naper Grove Vision Care

This was my first involvement with Naper Grove Vision Care. Scheduled appointment time was honored. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Dr Robbs asked the right questions and made sure he understood the issues I was having. He took the time for a comprehensive examination making certain I understood what his approach would be. Very personable. Overall a good visit that will have positive results.

Sales Brazilian Queen Hair  |  Rating: 2  |  Richard F. Butz, OD

He has many high-tech machines, and designer glass frames. But today I went there just because I wanted a simple glass and contacts prescription. I didn't go to my specialist that cost $50 co-pay because I didn't want to wait many hours in line nor spend too much money. Well, that was a mistake. I went to visit an Optometrist today I was initially charged $385 with all included (today's visit and prescription glasses) then I said I would not pay for glasses instead I just wanted the prescription papers. Then I was charged $109 for all the exams I had today, including a photo of my retina that I didn't feel I needed. I have a PPO insurance plus a very nice vision insurance. I felt robbed and trapped to pay $109 co-pay for a simple visit. And yet, I didn't come home with the contact lenses prescription, only the glass prescription. Thanks Adriana Irby

Cesar Pazo  |  Rating: 4  |  The Eye World

Wanted to provide an update regarding these concerns. Dr. Pranali was extremely quick and responsive regarding the issues stated below. Was happy with the options provided and customer care. Wish communication was a little bit more clear, but it’s good to see they care about their customers. — Not very happy with this place. Was quoted a different price but after examination price increased without any notification regarding surcharge for services. The shop does not have variety of glasses to pick from. I had to request an order that took about 2 weeks to arrive and representative told me to try them on first before cutting the glasses for the new prescription, she said it would about 15 minutes after I try them on to get them ready. When the order arrived and I tried them on, they could not get the prescription ready until after 2 hours because they were busy. While the shop is not responsible for the glasses, they’re very flimsy and look like they could break easily. Overall no happy with the price/services. Will not be returning and do not recommend.
