Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

I’ve enjoy utilizing Vision Works,Athens for years, and always had good service….until now. An order was placed at the store for contacts to be shipped to my home, delivery date of tomorrow. I’ve been trying to track the order on line and it has shown “processing” for 10 days now. I called today to check the status and no one can trace the order in the system and the store is seeing a message that the order is delayed. Jo, at the store said she has no way follow up with UPS on the order…..AND they have no samples to give me of my prescription. If they’re paying UPS to ship, then they should have a way to track my shipment. So use caution if ordering contacts from this location. You can order cheaper, hassle free, overnight shipment much cheaper with the 1-800 company. Lesson learned. Edited after response— sent details to email in their response. Awaiting answer as to where my contacts are and when they will be delivered. 5 days later, still awaiting response.

The doctor was quick & accurate. The nurse Henry, was amazing, he so deserves a raise! My son broke his old glasses & needs to have them to see, also he has Gov't insurance & it's impossible to find a doctor that would take it. We drove from Atlanta to Athens because this doctor takes his insurance & could see us in 2 days rather than 3 weeks out. Henry made sure that my son had a replacement pair before we left so my son could see. So worth the drive from Atlanta! Plus! This Walmart has Toilet Paper!

I’ve been to a few Eye Cares, including Five Points Eye Care in town, but Athens Family Visions exceeded my expectations. The staff is very professional, the Ophthalmologist listened to me with care and made sure to address my concerns. I got a new pair of glasses which I absolutely love. Highly recommend this place!

If you think the service is lackluster, wait until you see how poorly they coordinate with your insurance company. Our appointment was in December and when we made the appointment, we didn't think to say we had vision insurance and they didn't ask. At the time of service, we told them we had insurance but since we didn't tell them beforehand, they made us file the claim ourselves. We paid out of pocket that day, and the insurance reimbursement went to Harron instead of us directly. Instead of sending us the full amount of the insurance company's payment, Herron sent us a check for $10.08, the amount Harron marked down their services as part of the agreement with Anthem. Harron had no clue what happened or what was needed to make it right. You couldn't pay me enough to do business with these people again.

I came in to Order glasses for my 4 year old daughter after she broke hers. I was told they would take a week to come back, because that's what the company told the person who put in the glasses order in on the computer. I was told there would be a rush put on them. I have been calling all week, it has been a full week, to the actual date I was told the glasses would be here actually, and still NO GLASSES. I'd say if you need something in a timely matter, go somewhere else. If you can wait, this is the place.
