Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

Thank you Dr.. Chelbina for The best eye exam I have ever had, and I am 67 years old! Dr. CHELBINA is very thorough, and caring. He explained in detail each and every part of the exam, and why glasses never worked for me. Gave me a plan to help prevent my dry eyes from becoming worse, and suggested not using chemical based eye drops unless no other choice, which I loved. Sadly, this knowledgeable caring doctor, is retiring! But happy I found him before he left his practice so I know the truth, and don't look to glasses for help with my vision.

Lisa Henson  |  Rating: 5  |  InFocus Family Eyecare

I have been to several different optometrist offices in Sarasota and Bradenton, and InFocus Family Eyecare is the best I’ve seen! Drs. Ashley and Brad are both professional, kind, and family friendly. They truly care about their patients and don’t try to give you sales pitches. I rarely have to wait for my appointments and the office is always very clean. I highly recommend making an appointment with them! I’m adding to this review after taking my daughter for the past year plus. Dr. Brad was wonderful at each checkup, making her feel comfortable and explaining things so she could understand. She loved picking out glasses and is excited to wear them. Wonderful people work here and I would highly recommend InFocus for adults and children!

This location needs to learn how to communicate with potential customers better than they currently are....They also need to stop playing games and acting like they can't verify insurance when I HAVE vision insurance.... My husband is a current customer of theirs since September 2020....I called to set up an appointment for me (a new patient) because Target no longer takes my insurance and I haven't had an eye exam since 2019...gave the lady my insurance company name (my insurance company uses the social security as the account number) and told her she could find all the information under my husband's name who was a current customer of theirs. Nothing had changed....She asked questions, found my husband's information including all of our insurance information...she asked who the primary person was for the insurance, I said me...So basically they have all of my information in the system because of my husband & verified everything before we got off the phone...She said if they had any issues verifying insurance they would call me....no call at all.....She told me the doctor on Wednesday and Friday takes insurance and the doctor on Saturday doesn't take any insurance....Appointment was made for the next week on a Wednesday...walked in to the vision center, worker is about to give me paperwork to fill out, I ask him did they verify insurance, he is hesitant, (even the eye doctor goes "that doesn't sound too reassuring") he then states they couldn't find any insurance information for me....I had to laugh...He looks in the system & goes your insurance is "" and the eye doctor doesn't take that insurance....(I took time off from work for nothing) this same guy couldn't verify insurance information for my husband a couple of weeks prior when we needed to re order contacts for my husband. I called over the phone to reorder & specifically told him that I wasn't positive if we had to wait to use this years benefits because it hadn't been a year since my husband's last exam (even though benefits took effect at the beginning of this year) or if we had to pay out right (which is fine) (not my first rodeo)... he called my husband later on to say he couldn't verify insurance so I just went up there...he called the insurance company in front of me, guess what, they verified we have insurance even though he couldn't verify earlier. He asked them to fax authorization & they said they would.....I left but still called the insurance company anyway (u know that gut feeling u get) and figured out we had to wait until September to use this years benefits for my husband (not a big deal)...I did tell the guy before I left him that regardless if the insurance covers the price or if I have to pay full price, order the contacts...Days later, get the call to pick up the contacts, ask him if he ever received the authorization, he said no...I paid full price for the contacts and left....I have insurance through my employer that I pay for every paycheck... It's all good Walmart Vision, I will take my blind self & my husband's blind self (who both have vision insurance) to another company... Do better, be better... #WishTargettookmyinsurance #youdontdeserveanystaratall

D Davisson  |  Rating: 5  |  Manatee Family Eyecare | Warren Paquin O.D & Wayne Wood O.D.

What a pleasant experience; words not generally associated with a medical appointment. The front office and technical staff are so friendly and welcoming. Dr. Paquin was a refreshing change from my past eye examinations. I really felt like these people embody the “Family” part of their business name.

Matthew Snyder  |  Rating: 5  |  Better Vision Family Eye Care

I had a great experience with Dr Miller. Normally I am very sensitive with my eyes yet he was able to work with me without any issues. Plus they use a different machine for the glaucoma test (no more puffs of air in the eye)! Stephanie was very friendly and helpful with picking out frames especially since I've got the fashion sense of a sack of potatoes.
