Eye exams is a procedure to evaluate the functions of the eye that provide normal vision. Namely, how the size, shape, and color of objects are perceived, as well as their location relative to each other. Eye exams are necessary for the timely detection of abnormalities and successful correction. Eye exams include accurate determination of the patient's visual acuity and refraction, intraocular pressure measurements, microscopic examination of the eye (biomicroscopy), pachymetry (corneal thickness measurement), echobiometry (eye length determination), ultrasound eye examination (B-scan), computer keratotopography and thorough retinal (eye fundus) examination with a wide pupil, tear production level determination and detailed visual field examination of the patient. Various methods are used to test vision, the results of which allow the doctor to identify abnormalities and prescribe a correction.

First, they'll schedule you for a "standard" checkup and exam, then once they've got your eyes dilated and you're a little disoriented, dazed, and confused, they'll rapidly start ordering additional "necessary" procedures. Now, granted, these might be necessary, and to their credit, they were thorough, but read on... What I found most appalling, after it was all said and done, is that I was taken - still dialted and disoriented - to the "for-profit" side of the business where they immediately tried to upsell expensive exotic vitamins and eyewear. Don't believe me? Walk into the lobby and you can clearly see the dividing line between the "care" side with the check-in desk and the "profit" side with the eyewear. Which side will you land on after your exam? After their attempt to upsell me, I left the place with a sick feeling in my stomach as if being taken advantage of. But the fun didn't end there: a few weeks later in the mail arrived a $500+ bill! Yay. Happy Thanksgiving! A few calls later I find out that the claims weren't even sent to my insurance provider. Maybe they thought I'd just bend over and pay? Maybe that's what high rollers on K Street normally do? Maybe it was an incompetent clerical error? Maybe that's standard operating procedure? In my personal opinion I left feeling that Eye Rx and Dr. Teller represent all that is wrong with the healthcare system in the US today: it's not about care, it's about profit. Edited on 12/2/2019

We have always had a wonderful encounter with Dr. Garr. She provides thorough examinations and also shows genuine concern. Her expertise and willingness to listen and discuss as well as taking her time to explain my eye conditions to me is what keeps me coming back to Vision Source. Today I’m writing this review because of the current manager Lajeral. I called to schedule two appointments with Dr. Garr, and she answered the phone. Lajeral is one of a kind, she is professional, very patient, polite and helpful while still being pleasant. The dates I wanted were unavailable, but she went above and beyond to help me find a suitable appointment. She is incredible and Vision Source/ MyEyeDr are lucky to have her. Thank you so much Lajeral, you are awesome!

It had been a good ten years since the last time I had bought my first pair of glasses and I wanted to get them fixed, so I did some research to get my pair of iC Berlin’s fixed up and contacted Martin of DuPont Optical to see if they could be fixed. Martin responded to my email for an appointment very quickly and I came into the shop with my old pair of glasses. It quickly became apparent that I wanted a new pair of glasses, and given the superb selection of glasses in the store I started trying on some new models. Both Martin and Ben, the store owners, were extremely attentive and started showing me a wonderful selection of new glasses. I chose a pair of beautiful Gold + Wood glasses which I am extremely happy with. Oh, and Martin and Ben also fixed up my old pair of iC Berlin’s. I can’t recommend this place enough - both for the service and selection. I wouldn’t shop anywhere else the city.
