Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

So I just turned 60 and this is my first time purchasing prescription glasses and I wasn't sure where to go to so I called Plainville Optical in my hometown and I am glad that I did. I called at 9:30 am this morning and spoke to Maddy. She said that I have to make an appointment and asked me where I was and I said I am in the center of town. She said come on down and scheduled me right away. The other important thing that customers should know is that they accept Medicaid. Maddy was extremely professional and knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to work with her. I would totally recommend Plainville Optical.

Ok, so, im sure many of you will understand what im about to say. I have literally been to at least 10 doctor's for my dry eyes i have a box full of eye drops ive collected over the years nothing i mean nothing has worked. I also went to yale yes yale new haven dry eye clinic i was given antibiotics that made me sick. I was lost. I joined a Facebook forum for dry eyes i asked a question who is the best eye doctor in Connecticut i actually got answers from doctors themselves go see dr. Dr. Higgins so it was the best thing i ever did he and his staff are so welcoming. I was brought into a room and this machine that i never seen before gave me all the answers i needed dr. Higgins showed me my problem. I had my first IPL treatment about a month ago and im happy to say my quality of life has returned my eyes are open wide. The thing that really bugs me why has no one told me this is what i needed was IPL Not antibiotics, 20 different drops. 10 years if hell to finally reached heaven. Thanks Dr. Higgins please go see him you won't be sorry.

I wish google had an option to add more than 5 stars! Dr. Higgins and his team are absolutely amazing! I've been dealing with visual issues for 20+ years and more recently dry eye from all the past ocular surgeries I've had to have over the last 2 years. Dr. Higgins is so thorough and takes his time to really understand my medical history and ensure I understand every part of his thought process in order to help get to the bottom of resolving the issues I've been having. I was nervous to have another "procedure" but from just speaking with him I felt completely confident in his ability to help me. So far I've had IPL x2 and the newer probing technique to more aggressively treat my dry eye symptoms. I can absolutely say without a doubt my overall comfort has improved and I will continue to be treated by Dr. Higgins and his team for years to come. Incredibly wonderful people -- the world needs more like them! Thank you all so much for everything you've done for me this far. You guys are the best!

Had a great visit. I needed the intraocular and depth perception paperwork for flight school. After calling and emailing multiple times with no help I had to get a second eye exam elsewhere. I had to pay out of pocket for the second exam since my insurance only covers one exam per year. The doctor was very pleasant, just wish they were able to respond to emails and calls.

Stay away. Service and product quality has gone downhill. 3 Orders placed over the last year and all 3 sets of glasses have defects. Frames on one set are to large. After several visits for adjustments, we were told we should have gotten smaller frames. Out of 4 new lenses recently ordered, only one looks to be made to prescription provided by eye doctor as evidenced by another optometrist. Left lenses in both are "strong" compared to script. Right lens in sunglasses was so blurry that I had old lens put back in so street signs could be read. Owner insisted that this blurry vision was due to cataract and refused to hear anything different, even though I did not have the issue with the right lens in the regular glasses. Surprised to receive refund checks after documenting these problems, but not surprised to see that stop payments were made. So now we're left with 3 pairs of bad glasses plus $30 in bank fees.
