Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

I was having problems with my contact lenses and went to a new Doctor, Doctor Hoff. The experience was pleasant and now i can see better as my first doctor misdiagnosed my eyesight. The office is clean, modern and the equipment was high tech.

Abbot kinney is full of gems and ahlem is for sure one of them. A simple yet stunning store created and curated with so much taste like all the sunglasses, books and decoration accessories you can find there. Ahlem the designer was there when I stopped by and told me a little bit about the brand's story which was so nice to hear. Bonus point they are very kid friendly (which isn't always the case for mom who like to shop with their kiddos)! I'll be returning for sure!

They give zero care, and told me glasses fit when they were massive then wouldn't exchange them, well they just ignored my email actually. So many better glasses shops out there. These are over priced and cheap.

Miranda Mindling  |  Rating: 5  |  Hoff Optometry and Eyewear

Dr. Hoff has been by far, the most personable, helpful, diligent, & compassionate eye doctor that I have seen in over three years of searching for answers & help with my significant vision loss due to domestic abuse/violence; & I am still young & never had any issues with my vision prior in my life. Also, Dr. Hoff was the first & only Doctor to offer me hope. Hoff optometry offers exam & treatment technology & options more advanced & unlike anywhere else I have sought help in Southern California. Hoff’s exams are extremely thorough & the technology available at Hoff Optometry is very modern & gentle. Not to mention, how dedicated Dr. Hoff was personally in handling my unique case. Furthermore, the eye glass frame options available there are thoughtful... I am not a candidate for eye glasses, but if I was~ I would actually be excited, because to have such beautiful, tasteful, & timeless options would be lovely given it’s something worn daily. & I had sought treatment with some of the best in Orange County, including but not limited too: Hoag Hospital, University of Irvine, etc. & was considering more extensive options such as: UCLA, The Mayo Clinic, or Yale. However, I am confident in Dr. Hoff’s professorial ability & guidance for my ongoing vision needs. Lastly, & on a more personal note... I read another review posted here about Dr. Hoff... it was short, but very disrespectful. To say that it was entirely inappropriate & hateful~ would be an understatement. More of a personal attack, than a sincere & constructive review. & as a young person, trying to cope with severe vision loss, due to domestic abuse, I don’t believe that type of language has any place here. Then again, I’ve had to learn over the years, not to take it personally or bother with someone, who is cruel & hateful about things they don’t understand.

Dr. Hoff and his office staff are awesome! Even in these COVID times, they were able to provide a safe and thorough eye exam and fill my prescription quickly/easily. The office was spotless and all necessary steps to ensure a sanitary environment were followed. They're also just all around great people! Thank you.
