Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

I have great confidence in Dr. Sun. She’s thorough and great about explaining the health of your eyes. She’s also good about working with you to adjust your prescription to your specific needs.

Massimiliano Regis  |  Rating: 2  |  Golden State Optometry

The doctors was perfect: 5 starts. professional and smile at the same time. The real problem begin after the visit. I take an eye exam but the price was different: 49$ instead 10$. I called the insurance in order to know what's happen and they told me: at our side we had just an eye exam and it is 10$ ok, I thinking a bit and I remember that I had an eye exam and a retinal screening (no request, but it is ok, probably it is due to my bad english). I called "Golden State" in order to receive by mail my exams because I had just a prescription without nothing else. a really kind woman told me: absolutely I will send you everything by mail in 10 minutes.... after 4 days nothing. my idea was to buy a couple of glasses here but I think that is better to avoid that: some too big problem in administrative area. but compliments to the doctors. ----after answer ---- .... in fact some office problem: if you take a look into "Massimiliano Regis" you should be able to find my email because I compiled a form into your website when I scheduled my appointement

Candace Carnicelli  |  Rating: 5  |  Robert C. Dickey, OD

Seldom experience a doctor actually willingly listening to his or her patients and having a true "dialogue/exchange" about their health issue. Dr. Dickey is the exception. A co-worker referred him many years ago. I have found him to be present. .. authentic. .. and very skilled at his profession. I highly recommend him.

Anisha Gezelle  |  Rating: 5  |  Eyexam of California Santa Monica, provider of Eyexam of CA

From the moment that I called and confirmed my appointment it was truly a great experience! From the doctors to the associates everyone was a complete pleasure to deal with. Kierran was fantastic to work with and recommended some fantastic glasses for me to wear and even got me to go outside of my comfort zone. Dr. Lu is so warm and knowledge. She is always ready to answer any questions that you have no matter how big or how small. She truly is one of a kind. I’ve never had such a pleasure when getting an eye exam. When I was working with Daniel for my initial exam I really felt at ease and I honestly felt like I had made of friend that day. He was so knowledgeable and willing to be gave me great insight with eye health. I had such an amazing experience at this location! Nancy was fantastic! She really understood my needs and took care of me from the moment I walked in the door.

Chris Lieber  |  Rating: 5  |  Pacific Pier Optometry

My eye doctor retired so I was on the hunt for a new doctor. I was given Dr Kattengell's name so I made an appointment but I was a little skeptical (a new person to trust and all) but she was / is EXCELLENT! She is EXTREMELY THOROUGH and has the MOST up to date equipment. This is HER practice...HER business...she is young, very smart, caring and is determined to be the BEST eye doctor in Santa Monica! I'm convinced! Oh and parking was easy as well :)
