Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

My husband and I moved to the area just recently and were looking for a new optometrist. We visited the dentist next door who referred us to his son and daughter in-law. We were really excited because we had such a pleasant experience at the dentist we thought they are going to be fantastic next door! We went in for an exam about 7 weeks ago and it was incredibly busy, however we were able to browse and select frames before our exam which made our time there efficient. Despite the Dr. being in back to back exams she was excellent! My husband and I enjoyed our experience with her and we could tell she was caring and compassionate. We ordered my frames however, we were not given a specific time frame for arrival. I followed up 1 month later to check-in to see if they had arrived and was told over the phone they should be there that week. I did not receive call back that week. I waited 2 more weeks and thought it was odd I had not heard from them with any updates. So I followed up again with a phone call. I was placed on hold for several minutes and told and Optician would call me back. I was confused as the receptionist did not explain why someone was going to call me back. I asked if the frames had arrived and she said "no" and that an optician would call me back today. I would have appreciated some transparency from the beginning. I am super bummed about the lack of follow-up and accountability on their part. I'm a fairly patient person and understand when our work days get busy, however a quick email, phone call or even text with an update would have been sufficient. Fortunately, I already have frames and contacts so I didn’t need them right away, however I can only imagine how much more disappointing it would be to have to wait two months + for some glasses. In the 20+ years I’ve had glasses I’ve never had to wait this long for frames. It did not make me feel like a valuable patient especially since this is my first experience. So bummed. ☹

Best doctors and best staff. They actually saved my life in the smallest way possible. I lost eye sight in my right eye. They referred me to a few ERs and every ER in Bakersfield would just discharge me and tell me “refer back to your eye doctor” finally the eye doctors told me to go to UCLA because we couldn’t find out what was wrong. I got admitted to UCLA hospital for a week and got diagnosed with MS that caused lesions on my brain and also got diagnosed with 2 types of rheumatoid arthritis. If it weren’t for the doctors at this facility I would still be blind in one eye and wouldn’t be finally seeing doctors back at UCLA regularly to help me live a normal life I never knew was possible. I’ve never had someone advocate for my health so much. Happy holidays

The staff is friendly. The doctors are great, but every time I purchase my glasses, I feel like I'm sitting at a used car lot completely being taken advantage of. I recently with intent bought some designer prescription sunglasses. Of course every upgrade imaginable was added to the glasses without my consent, and I was charged $120 more dollars for the frames in office than those frames are being sold for anywhere else. I've checked three other providers and the frames I paid $520 for are $399 everywhere else I have found them.
