Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

Best optometry I have been to. Staff is super nice and got a lot of good suggestions about glasses and prescriptions. Appointments are usually a month away but I’d wait for it coz it was a very good place. Coming back here again next year if I’m in the area.

Guy fixed two pairs of glasses for me in like three minutes and didn't even charge me. If I'm in the Bay the next time I need new ones I'll be coming back. He was pretty and clearly an expert at his field.

Xavier is fantastic! I dropped off my Ray Ban sunglasses to him because the left arm was bent so the glasses became tilted. He told me to come back in 24 hours. Completely fixed and didn't charge me a penny. Super nice guy, will come back again for sure

Xavier is quite simply....the Best! Its a great little shop on Solano Ave owned by Xavier who is...quite a personality. Whatever your opinion on personalities, there just isn't as good a selection of frames anywhere or the level of optical expertise. I got my first pair of glasses from Xavier two plus years ago. He custom shaped my lenses for the styling I wanted...and when I got them, I could not believe the quality of the optics! This I did not expect. Its like I have been looking through cheap lenses since I was in the sixth grade (about 40 years). If you have ever gone to REI or some other sports store and looked through $1,200 binoculars and then $100 binoculars....same magnification power...yet completely different quality image...try it (seriously try this if you haven't). Its like the glasses I got from Xavier. He made sure the quality of what I ordered was the best available including the best performing automatic tinting I've ever had. I since moved to Sacramento and when my nose piece finally snapped off...I needed a replacement and fast. I looked all around downtown Sacramento but the quality of optics and the styling of the frames were simply not available. When I showed shops the frames I already had they all shook their heads and said they couldn't even order it. So, finally after searching for weeks, I called up Xavier on the phone out of desperation with no idea if there was anything he could do for me. He was like, oh, I'll just order your broken part new, pop in your updated prescription with new custom shaped lenses and you'll be good as new at almost half the original price (from years ago). I was like, whaaaaaaa?! I mailed in my broken pair, and back come my glasses completely repaired...good as new with updated prescription....Shazam! Slam dunk! Xavier! You are the best! Thanks again, -Jeff L.

Dr. Ruth J. Chen, O.D. has been my best and only Optometrist since early 1986 to present. I have faithfully seen her every summer due to my overseas assignment and I shall continue to be her patient. She is caring, very professional and I trust her to take care of my vision for many more years to come. My proof: I am 86young and I still drive without any eye glasses to this date.
