Who is an optometrist and what does he or she do?

Optometry is a branch of ophthalmology that specializes in methods of correcting vision using optometric aids. An optometrist is a specialist who determines the degree of vision impairment and prescribes corrective aids such as glasses and contact lenses.

What is the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?

What is the difference between the profession of an optometrist and an ophthalmologist? An optometrist only provides initial diagnosis and can only treat refractive errors with conservative methods.

What does an optometrist do?

Functionality: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services. Include: eye examinations, selection of types of vision correction (glasses, lenses), recommendations on eyeglass lens designs and contact lens materials, and advanced medical services.

Why do eyeglasses cost so much?

Eyeglasses are a complex optical device that is manufactured with high-precision equipment. Often expensive materials are used for the glasses. All of this explains why eyeglasses can be expensive.

What should you do before buying glasses?

Let's look at what to look for when buying eyeglasses. The first is, of course, quality. The second is the choice of lenses of glasses. Here we focus attention on the material: they can be either glass or plastic. The third is the choice of frames.

What's the difference between expensive glasses and cheap glasses for vision?

The quality and accordingly the price of the lens depends on the presence of coatings on the lenses. The higher the price, the more coatings on the lens. Coatings make our vision more comfortable. Lens manufacturers do not stand still and improve the quality of lenses.

How do I know which glasses fit my face?

It's best if the width of the frame is equal to or slightly larger than the widest part of your face. The upper line of the frames should coincide with the line of eyebrows. Smooth shapes of glasses will emphasize rounded curves of the face. To emphasize high cheekbones choose the "butterfly" or "cat-eye" glasses.

Where can I see better with glasses or contact lenses?

With lenses, you can see better, so it turns out that extra obstacles don't distort the image. Lenses don't shed dust, don't catch glare from the sun and don't distort peripheral vision-no matter where we look, the image stays sharp.

I was highly pleased with Dr.Cynthia Harper as she was very thorough and patient with me as I was trying to be fit and prescribed for contact lenses for the first time in my life. Very accommodating and professional attention.

Beware of this business! My parents are seniors (75+) in Sun City West and I feel the need to let others know about my experience with Dr. Donald J Siegel, O.D. and his business, Sun City West Eye Care PLLC located in Sun City West, Arizona. First, the parent in this visit has 1 eye. They have since they were 5 years old. So, If you have that same condition, understand that there is NO discount because as Dr. Siegel said to me, "I spend the same amount of time with the patient, so no, there is no discount." Next, you should know that YOU WILL PAY MORE HERE HAVING INSURANCE. A cash price for an Eye Exam ($96) and Refraction evaluation ($77) is $173.00. That is extremely high because you are choosing a business in Sun City West. Visits at Target or any other business are cheaper. In reviewing my parents statement from the visit, we paid $85 for the Eye Examination and $40 for the Refraction Evaluation in that office on the visit that day. Thinking we had paid everything that day, I know now was wrong. Sun City West Eye Care sent us a bill afterward, noting our BC/BS was billed / paid to this doctor another $37.91 at the same time they were requesting of my elderly parents another $20.03 as the billing department stated "It is due to no prior deductible amount met." They were over $1133 from meeting the deductible, so where does this arbitrary number of $20.03 come from? I still don't know. Adding this all together, our visit was $182.91 let alone the $300+ for lenses, using frames already purchased on another visit 2 years prior. I am writing this review because others should know that this business is price gouging seniors and your insurance costs you MORE at this business. So, go elsewhere! And, DON'T THINK YOUR INSURANCE IS HELPING YOU - It is NOT! For those family and friends watching over loved ones in Sun City West, avoid this business and find an eye doctor in nearby Surprise, Glendale, or Peoria. The money saved will be worth it! We will NOT be returning, knowing what we know now!

I have been going to Dr. Siegel for over ten years. He has always been extremely personable, compassionate and really cares about his patients. I have never been disappointed by him or his staff, they are all wonderful.

My in-laws were new at this eye doctor a few months ago and won’t stop talking about it. They said the girl that helped them with their exam was the most pleasant person they have ever had in a medical office. She had them laughing and seemed to truly care about them and their needs. They tell all their friends about “the Jaime Lee Curtis girl”. They said the doctor was nice, did a detailed job, and didn’t seem rushed like most doctors. With service like that they will keep coming back for years! Would be a 10 star place without the encounter with the boy working the front they said.

So I haven't had an eye exam in about 15 years so I wasn't really sure what to expect when I scheduled my appointment here. They got me in a few hours after I called and the staff was absolutely outstanding. The assistant that did all of my initial checks was extremely knowledgeable and explained everything in detail even when I was sure I had asked a ridiculous question. The optometrist was awesome and never made me feel rushed like you do in most medical offices. Turns out I ended up needing a pair of glasses for driving and I spent 15 minutes trying pairs on to ultimately end up with the first pair they had recommended. Never felt pressured to buy anything ridiculous or something I didn't need.
